[Personality]
When Mira was young everybody in the guild was afraid of her. She was well known as Demon Mira and generally infamous thanks to her violent and ruthless attitude. She liked bullying the weak and starting fights, especially with her greatest rival Erza. Mira was bold and had a lot of confidence in her strength. She also didn’t show much kindness to anyone, with the exception of her siblings – her younger brother Elfman and her younger sister Lisanna.
What drastically changed Mira’s personality was her little sister’s “death”. During a mission Elfman lost control over his Take Over: Beast Soul and Lisanna tried to speak to him, hoping he would return to his senses. That did not help at all and in the end Lisanna was “killed”. (It is later revealed that she didn’t actually die.)
At that time Mira, even though she was very strong, couldn’t do anything to help her sister and all she could do was watch. The loss of Lisanna made her feel guilty and helpless. She also lost most of her magical power back then, what made her feel even more useless.
Without her magical power and wishing to protect everyone else, so she would never ever lose anyone again, Mira became the motherly figure of the guild, full of patience and understanding for her fellow members.
Upon her first appearance Mira is seen always smiling and seems optimistic and happy. She makes an impression of a person who rarely gets angry, is patient, kind, caring and loving. She’s very friendly and cheerful. A person who’ll always hear you out and even tolerates the fights that happen inside the guild building.
Her kind and calm personality made her an idol of Fairy Tail guild and she is also considered a role model for some of the members (at least those who didn’t know her when she was younger) like Lucy. Most of the guild members most probably consider her a big-sister or mother figure.
It should be noted that for Mira the most important thing is safety of those dear to her. Even without much of her power she is seen helping Lucy escape from the danger by transforming herself to look like Lucy and at the same time putting herself in danger instead. After Mira gets her powers back (and after Lisanna comes back), she is seen shielding Lisanna from the explosion. She also gets angry at Laxus after he attacks the guild members and when she discovers the S-class mission was stolen. Mira is also seen teaching a very painful lesson to a guild that treated Fairy Tail badly at the time when the guild was in trouble during the seven years of absence of the most powerful members.
The moment when she protected Lisanna from the explosion also shows that Mira is willing to sacrifice herself in order to keep those dear to her safe. She would never forgive herself if she ever lost someone again.
Though kind and caring, deep inside Mira still is the person she used to be when she was younger. She is shown to be confident (after she becomes able to use her magical power again) and somewhat mischievous. In the battle against Jenny, which for the most part was a bath suit contest, after Jenny proposes to make a bet and Mira accepts, Mira defeats her rival in a single blow using her Take Over and gaining victory.
Another thing is that she never holds back in the battle. Even when she was fighting against her brother Elfman during the exam she had no intention to hold back. Being an S class mage Mira is extremely powerful and she can also use transformation magic which makes her even tougher opponent. She is in fact a bit scary when she fights.
It should be also noted that her will to fight is stronger when she fights in order to protect something or someone.
As an additional note: Mira is said to be a good cook. She has also many other talents: she is a good teacher (she is shown teaching transformation magic to Natsu, Lucy and Happy). She can sing and play guitar and is generally a star of Fairy Tail and the Sorcerer Magazine.

Ah, for those who do not know me yet, I am Mirajane Strauss, a mage of Fairy Tail! It’s nice to meet you all! I only arrived here, but I have been here before so don’t worry about me. I know what to do.
[Now her smile truns a bit sadder, apologetic.]
Natsu, Lucy, everyone... I’m really sorry for leaving so suddenly. I hope that I wasn’t gone for long?

Mirajane returned to Somarium and the first thing she had done was meeting with her comrades from the guild, talking to them and catching up on the events that happened during her absence. She didn’t miss a chance to ask Natsu if the Fairy’s Tail bar is still in one piece, with a smile admitting that she was worried about it. After all, Natsu tended to destroy buildings without meaning it!
Mira returned to her work at the bar as soon as she could and every day she welcomed the costumers with her kind smile. Underneath it all she missed her siblings greatly and the crazy events that took place in her world before she came here still occupied her thoughts but she decided that there was no point in worrying about it while here in Somarium.
She needed to be cheerful for everyone’s sake. She needed to make sure that they were all safe and not worrying about anything. They were her family, her precious comrades.
It was only natural that she was also worried about those of her friends that stayed in her world, but she already knew how Somarium worked, so she wasn’t worried too much. When she comes back home she will help them.
Mira saw Natsu and Lucy entering the building and she smiled at them.
“Natsu, Lucy!” she said when they walked up to her. “Welcome back.”
